Your Skin Type Determines Your Skin Care Routine Products
Your Skin is Unique to You
Human skin comes in several types and a multitude of colours. The basic structure and composition stay the same for everyone. Our skin type is coded into our genes, but the way it looks and feels is not.
There are so many things we can do to support the wellbeing of our skin and how it looks. It’s never too late to start investing in your skin.
Skin Care Routine Basics
The basic skin care routine comprises a cleanser, a skin balancing product, and a moisturiser. If your skin has other concerns, toner and a serum are wonderful products to add into the routine. You should also take into consideration your age and the condition of your skin. The younger your skin is, the lighter your skin care routine. Mature skin needs more specific products to keep you looking your best.
What’s My Skin Type?
How do you determine your skin type? It’s all about how thick or thin the skin is, how sensitive it is and how much sebum it produces. There are four main skin types:
- Normal/Balanced skin
- Dry skin
- Oily skin
- Combination skin
Normal Skin
Normal skin or balanced skin is not too dry, nor too oily, so overall sebum and moisture is in balance. It feels velvety and has fine pores, good blood circulation, and a uniform tone. It is usually not prone to sensitivity. Normal skin can become dryer when ageing, so it is also important to use moisturising skincare products regularly.

Dry Skin
Dry skin is used to describe the skin when it produces less sebum than normal skin. This type of skin lacks the lipids that skin needs to keep a normal amount of moisture and protect itself against external factors. So dry skin type needs skin care products that are higher in lipids, and more moisturising.
Recommended Products: Pure & Natural™ Deep Cleansing Balm, Intense Marine™ Mask
Oily Skin
Oily skin has a very high sebum production. The skin is well moisturised, but needs some hydration. The products best suited for the oily skin type are those that help control the sebum production and do not clog the pores. Oily skin has breakouts easily, and they happen when the skin is overly nourished. The best products for oily skin are very light gel-like moisturisers that calm the sebaceous glands.
Your Best Skin
Your skin deserves all the attention that you can give it. Besides being a very visible part of your identity, it has essential functions for our body. Your skin protects you from the environmental damage like sunlight and germs. It helps to regulate you body temperature and enables you to feel touch sensations.
Your skin changes overtime because of two major factors: passage of time and sun exposure. The more you expose our skin to the harmful wavelengths of sunlight, the faster your skin ages. There are visible signs showing your skin is ageing. As we grow older, the collagen and elastin in the skin deteriorate. Skin loses its tightness and fullness, wrinkles and fine lines appear.
Taking care of your skin for your general wellbeing is a lifelong journey. The more you pay attention to its needs, the better it will serve you.
